Brevard
Brevard, (brevardnc.com)
just 20 minutes from Cummings Cove, is a
charming mountain town in beautiful Transylvania
County. Literally meaning "across the woods",
Transylvania is an appropriate name. This
college town is lush with trees and waterfalls.
Enjoy a day strolling Main Street, browsing in
antique stores and sampling the many casual and
fine restaurants of Brevard.
Brevard North Carolina Real Estate
Brevard and Transylvania County are steadily
growing with emphasis on real estate, tourism
and college-town appeal. This also enhances
Brevard’s desirability as a retirement and
second-home location. Nearby, Cummings Cove
offers a diverse selection of homes from
condominiums to easy-care cottages, villas and
mountaintop estates.
As a small town, Brevard relies heavily on
volunteers to assist in many civic and
educational programs. Year-round and summer
residents contribute significantly to Brevard
Academy, Brevard College and Blue Ridge
Community College as well as Transylvania
Community Hospital. This helps make it possible
for this small town to provide a broad spectrum
of programs and activities.
Brevard Arts and Entertainment
Brevard College’s Porter Center for Performing
Arts (brevard.edu/AlumniCommunity/PorterCenter):
Known as one of the finest performance halls in
the South, The Porter Center’s concert series
showcases an array of styles—from Doc Watson to
Herbie Hancock, from Harry Belafonte to the
Emerson String Quartet, from Leahy to the
Afro-Cuban All Stars. The concert hall has
seating for 700, superlative acoustics and
unobstructed sightlines.
Brevard Music Center (brevardmusic.org)
: Each summer more than 400 gifted music
students from around the world join professional
musicians for seven weeks of intensive study and
more than eighty public performances from opera
to symphony, Broadway and pops. The Brevard
Music Center has established itself as one of
this nation’s leading summer institutes and
festivals. In 2006, the Boston Pops conductor,
Keith Lockhart, became the artistic advisor. The
BMC campus includes 145 buildings on 140 acres
of spectacular mountainside.
Brevard Waterfalls: With more than 250
spectacular waterfalls, visitors may wish to
research their choices on
www.visitwaterfalls.com or obtain a copy of
“Land of the Waterfalls” (a map and guide) from
the Brevard Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center.
Brevard College (Brevard.edu)
is a small liberal arts college offering
undergraduate degrees in one of the most
naturally beautiful settings in the country, the
Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina.
Brevard College CreekSide, (pixeldog.com/newcreekside)
is the program for lifelong learning, offering
classes to the community in the areas of arts,
crafts, business, computers, exercise, health
and well-being. CreekSide also offers three
programs designed especially for newcomers to
this area. Participants meet face to face with
leaders of the community to gain a better
understanding of this area and explore public
issues and concerns.
Blue Ridge Community College (brcc.edu),
a two year community college with a continuing
education program, is a vital part of Henderson
and Transylvania Counties. With campuses in both
Brevard and Flat Rock, Cummings Cove is
conveniently located mid-way between the two
campuses. The Center for LifeLong Learning
offers courses in history, science, gardening,
humor, music, health and wellness, political
perspectives, literature and antiquing. Short
trips are offered to waterfalls, theaters in
North Carolina and nearby states, museums,
behind the scenes at city and county facilities,
canoeing, picnics, rafting, and educational
retreats.
The Pisgah District of the Pisgah National
Forest (ncwaterfalls.com/Pisgah)
is the most visited district. Dominated by Mt.
Pisgah on the Blue Ridge Parkway and extending
on both sides of the Parkway, it is located
between the towns of Brevard, Waynesville and
Asheville. This popular district is noted for
easy access to many beautiful waterfalls,
wonderful hiking and camping opportunities, the
